Oh, raising a 5 year old...yep, this word is used a lot in our house right now, Respect. We want our children to understand that they are to respect authority...but, we also want them to know they they should respect themselves (this is a lesson that will be much more relevant as they grow, and face the everyday challenges of teenagers).
Show proper respect to everyone; Love the brotherhood of believers, fear God, honor the king.1 Peter 2:17
Lord, help us instill in our Children a respect that carries farther than our reminding. I want them to respect themselves enough to make good choices, respect authority around them, respect Your laws, and, respect the Government you put into place. Even when they don't agree...I want them to show respect. Help me to be the example for them! Amen.
